Disney’s hotel, Animal Kingdom Lodge, has many
African style murals on the exterior of the multiple buildings along with tribal designs ornately placed throughout the entire complex. This hotel is adjacent to the Animal Kingdom Park. Murals begin on the second level as the grounds around the hotel are grazing pastures for many exotic animals.
These are some examples.
The lion mural was one of about 20 using a half dozen patterns. It is about 55 feet high and 25 feet wide, done to the specification of the client. It begins about 12 feet above ground level. A high reach was needed to do this work. I worked on this site during the last phase of its completion for a period of six months. I interfaced directly with the Disney Art Director to provide the style and look desired. At some of the time I also managed a team of six artists on three lifts simultaneously to complete the extensive images on the outside of the hotel.
In addition there were a variety of artistic tasks to be done on the interior at this site.
